| A Letter from the Executive Director… |
 |

Dear Supporters,
Last week, the public became aware of the intentions of the Corp of Engineers and the response was immediate and heartfelt. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the overwhelming support we have received since that time.
While talking to the many people who called, came by, and emailed, I became aware of two issues I would like to clear up. First, the city officials, (I work most closely with Lloyd Rinderer, Assistant City Manager), have been absolutely on our side and are working to resolve this issue. Everyone from the Mayor to the Animal Services Unit of the Police Department know the value of the work we provide the City of Galveston. They do not plan to see us displaced any more then we want to be.
Also, I need to clarify that the Corp of Engineers decision to ask us to vacate the building was not at a local level. We have several loyal volunteers who work for the local Corp and they were just as distressed as the general public. This decision came from the Ft Worth office. Our local people have always been supportive and we value their friendship.
I do have a bit of good news also in the way of a little update – when you go by our site at 6814 Broadway, you will see great progress. Today, Monday, April 26, 2010, the slab was poured. The building is scheduled to arrive on May 5th and the assembly will begin immediately. So, at best, we will only need this temporary building for approximately six more months. Barring any major weather problems, we hope to move in by November 1st. We have all been waiting a long time for this new shelter.
Funding is still an issue for our new building so we hope you will continue to support our ongoing efforts to acquire needed funds. We have several fundraising event each year and appreciate your support. We also have several community sponsored events planned that are a wonderful way to support us. There are naming opportunities available for areas of the new shelter. You can get additional information on our work and our building at www.galvestonhumane.org.
Again, I personally would like to thank everyone for your support and hope this issue will be resolved as quickly as possible.
